The state of Florida offers some of the most comprehensive programs and services to help residents own the mobility equipment they require. Florida mobility equipment funding may be either condition-based, or community-based. The most common mobility funding sources in Florida will help cover the purchase of a wheelchair van, wheelchair lifts for full sized vans, and even some adaptive equipment.

When applying for funding, it’s important to keep in mind that most state grants for adaptive equipment and assistive technology can often be combined to help cover the cost of a wheelchair van. You may also notice that some of Florida’s state funding is limited based on your veteran status, condition, or age. We encourage you to pay close attention when applying for funding for your accessible vehicle, so you will know exactly what documentation to include, what the funds apply to, and when to follow up for a response.

If I need to trade in my vehicle for a wheelchair accessible van, can I still use a grant?

Since obtaining funding for mobility equipment can be time-consuming, we recommend trading in your current vehicle when possible. Trade-ins are a good way to save time and energy when applying for funding. We are happy to assess the value of your trade-in, and we will offer you a fair value whether you are trading an accessible vehicle or one that has not been converted. Your trade-in will offset some of the cost of a new or pre-owned mobility vehicle so that you can focus on getting the grants which offer the most promise. In addition to grants and funding programs, we are able to help you obtain financing from trusted sources who understand the value of mobility vehicles.
